A Summer to Remember
Laying in the summer sun,
Now that the school year's done,
Tension relieved from me,
While I listen to the sea,
The tides carry me away,
As I remember that day.
When stars were angels in those dark nights,
And roaring rapids were welcome sights.
Shorts, life vest, and a paddle,
The raft as our only saddle,
Sun beating down on my face,
Challenges of increased pace,
Raging river up ahead,
Forgetting what our guide had said,
We stormed towards the fateful Pinball,
Like a militia, strong and tall.
When stars were angels on those dark nights,
And roaring rapids were welcome sights.
The day had come to jump the cliff,
I went gladly, others were stiff,
Sunburn legs of cherry red,
Red-vines were as good as dead,
Abandoned tents for the night,
Gazing upon twinkling lights,
The sand court became our tent,
Talking of the days we'd spent,
Traveling throughout the Kern,
A surprise at every turn,
Pulling pranks along the way,
And scheming to catch the squirmy prey,
During those brights summer days.
When stars were angels on those dark nights,
And roaring rapids were welcome sights.
Wanting, wishing, to go back,
We grab our bags and start to pack!
